Sprouts, shoots and digging

The broad beans are starting to sprout:

..and so are the sweet peas:

Outside there are signs of the mint re-growing:

There are lovely tiny leaves on my roses:

And the magnolia tree might bloom sometime soon!

This afternoon was lovely and sunny. I spent a couple of hours digging, I'm still finding massive rocks in the soil under the lawn - left over from when the house was built I think.

Greenhouse is built, and sweet peas are sown

Today Lizzy helped me put up the mini greenhouse:

And we planted the sweet peas in to seed trays.

Potatoes chitted and sweet peas soaking

Lizzy helped me chit the Pentland Javelin potatoes...

...and we have put the sweet peas (striped, fragrant, and bijou mix) to soak - they need to soak overnight before planting in pots tomorrow.

New greenhouse

Today I went on a trip with my Dad to Wilkinsons, and bought a new 4 tier mini greenhouse. A bargain at only £12! Plus I got some seed potatoes and shallot onions from Aldi (£1.99 each).

Broad beans

I potted some broad beans today. We'll see if they sprout, they're rather out of date (plant by 2007!).

Blow the wind

Today was very windy.  I woke up to find pots all over the garden, my little greenhouse had been blown over & all the pots in it went everywhere.

Trip to the garden centre

I had a trip last weekend to find the nearest garden centre. I came across Pencoed Garden Centre - just before Bridgend. Very friendly, they're having a refit & will be ready for March. I bought some seeds, compost and a sage and thyme plant. They're linked with the bigger garden centre in Ewenny, towards Ogmore. I'm also trying some sprouting alfalfa seeds.
It was cold, but I prepared some more of the vegetable patch, by digging up a bit more lawn!
